I have two sons, both have two lovely children; when does the Father’s Day celebration officially switch from my house to theirs?

Plans usually are make either on the day before or at best the week before.

Wives, who usually do the domestic social heavy work, are somewhat flummoxed by this one.

I’m an unmarried father and grandfather who’s a little hesitant to push myself into any celebration that is not intended to include me. However, it would be a small slice of heartbreak if it didn’t.

This year was like the past 10 or so years.

Same text to my two sons:

Hey Guys,

Whatcha doing for Father’s Day?

Love,

Dad

The answer from both is relatively the same year after year.

Dad,

Girls/boys have soccer games in the morning but how about in the afternoon over at_______’s house? (Usually the other brother)

Love,

_________

Relieved, thankful and full of love for sons , grandchildren, and understanding dutiful wives, I immediately text back:
