In my heart of hearts, though, I knew that Sally, who was so outgoing and kind, would soon begin to feel, if she wasn’t feeling already, that confusing tangle of emotions and thoughts that usher in puberty, and she would begin to view James differently. Less and less, would she be content to be the audience to his recitations. She’d want to share the stage with him.
