A great film, if it is to make it into the hearts and minds of both critics and filmgoers as a classic, requires an exceptional score. Bernard Herrmann, bringing his talents as a composer to the production, provided Scorsese’s Taxi Driver with the best possible score. The composer’s hauntingly vivid score, coupled with the film’s unsettlingly tense mood, is perfection.
