As a Senior, I Prefer to Stay Home
I accept it, there’s nothing wrong in being comfortable in familiar surroundings
When I had a family, I use to live in a four bedroom three bathroom house.
With the hubbub of raising three children my wife and I needed every inch of those four bedrooms and three baths.
The kids grew up, graduated from college and flew the coop. They now have families of their own — and appropriate housing.
My wife and I divorced soon after the kids left the nest. She won the house in the divorce settlement which suited me fine because I have a predilection for small spaces.
I bought a 720 square foot one bedroom condo. I’m very happy there. It’s reassuring to know that I don’t have to walk up staircases. Although the condo is on the 30th floor the assent is by elevator and mercifully the only stairs involved are in an enclosed fire tower in the event of an emergency. I’ve been there since 2006 and we haven’t had one yet.
I’m familiar with every nook and cranny of my 720 feet of living space.
I could find my way around my little condo’s living room, galley kitchen, bedroom and bathroom blindfolded.
